Education and Research

At Karunashraya we believe in sharing the wealth of knowledge gained over decades. And this belief took a beautiful turn in 2015, with the setting up of the “Department of Education and Research”. With the vision of improving the quality of care, our education and research centre trains medical, nursing and other health care professionals, guided by the finest minds in palliative care. We also carry out research work for a deeper understanding of palliative care and to identify areas of concern.

As part of the endeavour of sharing knowledge, we have joined hands with the governments of Karnataka and Odisha, to train doctors in providing palliative care, not just in urban areas but to rural populations as well. Today we are playing a much more important role in training doctors and nurses under the National Program of Palliative Care (NPPC) – an initiative by National Health Mission – Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Our Department of Education and Research organizes conferences, symposia and colloquia on a regular basis for enabling close interactions with fellow researchers, and also to increase our visibility in the scientific community. By signing MoUs with acclaimed global institutions like NIMHANS, MAHE, Darwin International Institute for the Study of Compassion, U.K (DIISC), we offer guidance to students pursuing their MPhil, PhD and other further studies.

To bring our knowledge to the fingertips of the needy, we have developed a free mobile app “Pallikare- A Palliative Care App” which helps health care professionals in providing better and professional care for terminally ill patients, especially in remote areas.
